Water Quality Update

October 25, 2011

Following improvements to the treatment process at the water plant which produces your water, we are pleased to announce that the water produced at the Woodward water treatment plant meets all EPA drinking water standards and the water quality warning has been removed. Arsenic and nitrite have been at acceptable levels for several months, but the warning remained in place as a precaution for our customers.

To address these water quality concerns, our staff consulted with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and implemented current treatment techniques to meet drinking water standards.

The arsenic level was minimized by changing the source water at the Woodward treatment plant and using another water source which is naturally lower in arsenic. In addition, a study was conducted to identify the necessary chemical treatment process and the system was developed as a redundancy to the current treatment process.

Sampling results at the treatment plant have shown that nitrite levels have not exceeded the water quality standard for more than a year. This was accomplished by implementing a water main flushing program, adding chlorine treatment, and increasing the pH level of the water leaving the treatment plant.

Our staff regularly to monitors the quality of the water distributed to our customers. Water quality is of utmost importance to our utility and it is our priority.

Thank you for your continued support as we worked to address these issues. Should you have any questions, please contact our customer service department between 8:00 a.m.  – 4:30 p.m. at the (515) 676-2117.
